EFDA & X-RAYS Certification

The Florida Board of Dentistry approves this course.

Intended for international dentists, dental assistants or dental hygienists from other states, or dental assistants trained in working under the supervision of a licensed Florida dentist for a minimum of 3 months. The primary objective is to prepare Dental Assistants in Florida for certification and training in Expanded Functions for dental auxiliaries in Florida and Georgia per Florida Statutes, Section 466.024(6) and Board of Dentistry Rule 64B5-16.005.

What You'll Learn

The program provides comprehensive education to prepare students to become Dental Assistant with Expanded Functions certification and x-rays Certification., to prepare students with knowledge in sterilization and disinfection procedures as stated in Rule Chapter 64B5-25, F.A.C and the dental practice act and administrative code, through didactic, laboratory, repletion through hand-on instruction and clinical experience.

This Program Is Ideal For:

International Dentists/Hygienists: Gain the necessary skills and knowledge to transition to dental assisting in Florida.
Out-of-State Dental Assistants: Qualify for expanded functions and X-ray certification in Florida.
On-the-Job Trained Assistants: Formalize your skills and obtain certification for expanded functions after working with a dentist for at least 3 months.

Requirements

You must be an international dentist (hold a university degree in dentistry) or have 3 months of on-the-job training under the direct supervision of a dentist licensed in Florida.
Complete the registration form.
Complete the online class before the day of the practical session.

Course Curriculum

This 18-hour program combines online modules, laboratory exercises, and a final exam to equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary for certification.

1. Sterilization & Disinfection (Online Theory - 2 hours):
- Master proper sterilization and disinfection procedures as outlined in Florida regulations.
2. Expanded Duties for Dental Assistants (Online Theory - 3 hours):
- Learn about the expanded functions you can perform with certification.
3. Dental X-Ray Procedures (Online Theory & Laboratory - 4 hours):
- Understand X-ray principles, positioning techniques, and safe operation of dental X-ray equipment. (May require additional certification for X-Ray operation)
4. Orthodontic Expanded Functions (Laboratory - 3 hours):
- Gain knowledge about additional procedures you can perform in orthodontics with expanded functions certification.
5. Final Exam (2 hours):
- Test your knowledge and skills to assess your readiness for the official certification exam.
